Career Daze

January 30th and 31st are special days at TBJH. On the 30th teachers will be talking about their career paths while on the 30th there will be guest speakers coming into the classrooms to talk about their professons. Career Daze is an annual event at TBJH and would be a great opportunity for you to talk to your child about your jobs, including those that required you to wear funny uniforms- your child will love it!

Also, on January 31st those students who have been dentention free will be attending the No Detention Convention at TBJH. There will be many exciting activities!

Finally, do not forget that the deadline for The Chargers hoodies or t-shirts is January 27th. (see previous post for further information)

Team T-shirt/Hoodie Order

As a Team, we have decided to place an order through the Graphic Arts Department at AHS for Team t-shirts or hoodies. All students will have the information form inside their planner. Orders are due on January 27th, 2012. Cost for a t-shirt is $7.00, hoodie is $16.00, and they can even personalize the shirt with their name for an additional $3.00. As a team, we hope to wear them each Friday to show some team spirit. Thanks again for all you do!

Happy New Year everyone!!! We are all getting back into the swing of things and I thought that I might plant a few reminders. First off, with the cold season in full swing, our team is in need of tissues and wipes. Any that you could bring in would be VERY appreciated!

In math, we have wrapped up Investigation 2 with a few review activities and tried out the "centers" concept in class. The students looked like they were having a great time reviewing tables and graphs. Please continue to check Pinnacle to track your child's progress. If you need to get a Pinnacle password, please call the attendance office. There is a label in your child's planner where you can write the information and they can refer to the label in the future as well.

Finally, math students will have a quiz next Friday. Be checking their planner for a study guide next week! Have a fabulous 2012!

Upcoming Events-Conferences and the 6th Grade Dance

Fall Conferences
Thunder Bay Jr. High conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 3 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. and Friday, November 4 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. The conferences will be held in the cafetorium. No appointment is needed. Your child should have brought home a conference information sheet last week with a designated teacher representative, which is generally your child's first hour teacher. If you have a need to see other teachers, you may if they are available.

We look forward to seeing your there.

Dance volunteers needed!
6th grade is sponsoring the November dance. The money raised from this dance will be used for academic enrichment activities.

We need parent volunteers to help at the dance. Parents are needed to work the concession stand, to help monitor bathrooms, and provide supervision in general.
The dance will be held Friday, November 18 from 2:20-4:20. Parent volunteers need to be here by 2:00 and report to the 6/7 office.
If you can help, please sign up at conferences or email any team teacher.

Can’t come the day of the dance but still want to help?
We are in need of donations of snacks, baked goods and beverages to sell at our concession stand. You can send in home baked items or individually prepackaged snacks. As far as beverages, we would like individual portioned things such as Capri Sun, juice boxes, water bottles, etc. Beverages and prepackaged items should be sent in between Monday, November 14- Thursday, November 17. Homemade or perishable items can be sent in on November 18.

Math Quiz Friday 10/14

Hello again Parents and Students,

We will again be having a quick math quiz on Friday, October 14th. The quiz will cover adding and subtracting fractions. We will have practiced these concepts for several days in class. Hopefully this will translate to some great quiz grades. Please feel free to check out www.aaamath.com for some practice problems. I also love the games at Gamequarium. Hello parents and students,

We have a quiz coming up Friday, September 30th, 2011. It will be short, sweet, and to the point. The topics that the students will need to know are:

1. How to change mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa.
2. How to reduce fractions.
3. How to multiply fractions and mixed numbers.
4. How to divide fractions and mixed numbers.
5. How to divide a decimal by a whole number.

These topics will be put in their planner tomorrow morning as well so they will have an idea of how to study.

Finally, check the math links on the left hand side of this page for some tutorial videos and a link to www.aaamath.com which has great practice problems for every topic!

Friday Team Day - Volunteers Welcome

Hello parents and students! On Friday, September 30th, our school will have their first Team Day. A Team Day is created to allow teams to develop some team spirit and do some fun activities culminating in an amazing - albeit loud - Pep Assembly at the end of the day. Our Team color is RED so make sure to have your child wear a red shirt that day.

We will also have a shortened schedule where students will attend all classes for around a half an hour and after lunch, we will do some fun Team Building activities. We are looking for a few volunteers to help out with those activities. The volunteers will need to arrive around 11:00 and meet in Mrs. Suszek's Room for further instructions. We will need you until approximately 1:45 but if you would like to stay for the assembly, you are more than welcome! So if you have free schedule on Friday, contact one of our team teachers. We would love to have you! Thanks so much for all you do!!

Suszek's Math Help

Hello everyone! I just wanted to offer some math homework help. Students may come in (with a pass) for homework help during lunch on Thursdays and/or after school for 1 hour on Tuesdays. The only exception would be if we have a meeting after school. Please have your child check with me ahead of time if they plan to stay just in case. If I am unavailable on Tuesdays for a meeting, then I will stay after on Wednesday that week. I really hope that students and parents utilize this time as the groups are usually quite small and we can accomplish a lot! Thanks so much!

First Week Reminders

Hello, and welcome to Team 6A- we are so very excited for another school year to begin!

Below are just a few first week of school reminders:

1. Please remember to sign the following forms: Parent & Student Waiver Form, Insurance application [if purchasing school insurance] and Volunteer Form. Your child's social studies teacher will be collecting these on the first day of school.

2. Also, remember that Picture Day is Thursday, September 8th. All students will be photographed during their math class.

3. Finally, if your child is purchasing a TBJH yearbook their order can be turned into their ELA teacher.

**All forms and envelopes can be found in the folder you received with your child's schedule.

This is going to be a great and exciting year!

Schedule Pick Up Day

It was great to see so many 6A students at schedule pick up! Everyone looked like they were getting the hang of their lockers and finding their classrooms. We will spend time on the first day going over your schedule again, and making sure everyone knows which bus to get on at the end of the day.

Your 6A teaching team is looking forward to seeing you on the first day of school. Remember to bring your planner and school supplies with you on the first day.
